At the end of this lesson, you will be able to demonstrate how to 'crop' a photograph using the 'rule of thirds' by creating a new blank document using a 3 x 3 imaginary grid, opening the image to be cropped and moving this image onto the new blank document. This image can then be cropped to your liking with the 'crop' tool.
The 'rule of thirds' is used to help improve the composition of your image. Using this method, the image is divided into a 3 x 3 imaginary grid and when the subject (focal point) is positioned at the center of one of the intersection points of this imaginary grid it leads to a more appealing composition.
Requirements:
- Watch the video tutorial shown on the next page.
- Open 'OriginalImage1.jpg' and use it to practise cropping an image using the 'rule of thirds'.
Note: 'OriginalImage1.jpg' can be downloaded in 'Photography Preparation - Lesson 1'. - Save your file when finished as shown in this video tutorial.
